A Day in the Life of a Southern Miss Freshman
As a freshman at the University of Southern Mississippi, each day brings its own mix of excitement, challenges, and new experiences. Today, I want to share a glimpse into my typical Monday routine.
Morning: Starting the Week Right
I usually wake up around 10 AM to get ready for my first class. I usually dont eat breakfast but today I ate a breakfast bar and had a energy drink to help make it through the day. After that, I head to to College Hall, home to the student media center, once I'm there I talk to my fellow coworkers and discuss things going on in our lives and around campus.
Midday: Work at WUSM
After my classes wrap up, I walk over to the Student Media Center for my shift at the radio station, WUSM, from 11 AM to 1 PM. Working here has been one of my favorite experiences so far. There’s so much to learn about radio broadcasting, and the team is incredibly supportive. I help with various tasks, from mixing audio for upcoming shows to brainstorming content ideas. Each shift feels new, and it’s thrilling to be part of the station’s energy.
Afternoon: More Classes and Studying
Once my shift is over, I head to my first and only class of the day. Once my class is over, I hit the library to catch up on some reading and study for an upcoming exam. It’s a little overwhelming sometimes, balancing work and classes, but finding a quiet spot in the library makes it a lot easier. I take breaks to chat with classmates and share our struggles; it’s comforting to know I’m not alone in this journey.
Evening: Wind Down and Reflect
After a full day, I head back to my dorm to relax. I enjoy a simple dinner from a restaurant of my choosing or I find something to put in the microwave while listening to music or catching up on my favorite shows. Before bed, I usually spend some time planning for the next day and thinking about my goals as a student. It’s a tiring but rewarding day, and I feel grateful for the experiences I’m gaining at Southern Miss!
