Balancing Work and Study at Southern Miss

College life can sometimes feel like a juggling act, especially for someone like me navigating being a freshman at the University of Southern Mississippi. This week, I want to highlight how I balance my responsibilities, especially working at WUSM, the campus radio station.

The Challenge of Time Management

Mondays and Wednesdays are my busiest days, starting early with classes and ending with my shift at the radio station. The key to managing my time effectively is using a planner to keep track of my assignments, work hours, and personal commitments. I try to block specific times for studying, taking breaks when needed to recharge my brain for the next task.

Work at WUSM: My Passion

My role at WUSM is more than just a job; it’s a passion project. During my shifts, I work alongside some talented peers, and we brainstorm content that resonates with the student body. From managing social media to helping with on-air segments, I feel like I’m gaining valuable skills that will be beneficial in my future career.

Balancing Social Life

As a freshman, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and forget about socializing. My friends and I make it a point to meet up after classes or on weekends, enjoying the vibrant campus life. Whether it’s grabbing dinner at the Hub or attending campus events, these moments are crucial for maintaining a healthy balance between work and study.

Reflections on Growth

Although balancing work and study can be challenging, it has helped me grow tremendously. I’ve learned the importance of prioritizing tasks, staying organized, and taking care of my mental health. Each day at Southern Miss teaches me something new, and I am excited about what the future holds!
